The Coming Tsunami of Adult Learners: WHO

Posted by Edvance360 on Feb 8, 2019 10:02:00 AM

In a previous post, we interviewed Professor Stephen Higgins in preparation for ABHE 2018, a smaller accrediting body specifically for Bible colleges and seminaries. His unique perspective on adult learners comes from his varied background teaching adult learners and leading schools that appeal to adult learners, but his predictions are of interest to anyone who deals with adult learners. The timing is significant for two reasons:

1) Growing popularity of smaller or "boutique" accrediting bodies (such as ABHE or NCCET) and micro-credentialing vs. regional accrediting bodies (SACS COC or HLC),  and

2) Warning signs that a convergence of outside forces and student-led demands may be loosed on current forms of post-secondary education, affecting not only Higher Education but also corporate learning environments.

We will explore this topic - and how Edvance360 LMS is uniquely poised to assist our clients to serve these adult learners - in the next several blogs.

In Part 1 of our series, we discussed why Instructional Design is important, and some ways that the Edvance360 Learning Management System can help you design effective, easy to navigate and maintain, courses. In Part 2, we are going to take a closer look at three variables in the Instructional Design process - Methods, Conditions, and Outcomes. Simply put, “methods are ways to achieve desired outcomes under your unique conditions” (Reigeluth). Let’s unpack that statement a little and take a closer look.

Who Cares About Instructional Design?

Posted by Edvance360 on Nov 2, 2018 8:31:30 AM

Instructional Design. The words sound so dry and boring. Maybe even intimidating. But, the truth is, they don’t have to be. If you are involved in creating courses, you are already involved in instructional design. Edvance360 Learning Management System (LMS) has many tools that make course creation and management simple, but even so, a little attention and time at the front end can help optimize learning outcomes. At its core, that is what Instructional design does - it optimizes the process of instructing and learning to make your online learning program successful.

Edvance360’s #1 Feature: Our People

Posted by Edvance360 on Jan 9, 2018 6:33:24 PM

We normally shy away from listing “people” as a “valuable asset or resource” because the predominant thought around doing so implies that they are replaceable. Ours, quite frankly, are NOT replaceable. However, when it comes to you and your needs, the most valuable asset to getting you up and running successfully is not going to be a particular feature nor will be it be interface - as important as these are - it is going to be OUR PEOPLE. You wouldn’t make it without them, and that’s a fact.

Integrating Accessibility into Online Courses

Posted by Edvance360 on Oct 3, 2017 9:00:00 AM

Campus Technology published an article titled Your Course Accessibility Checklist providing a high level overview on the key aspects for integrating accessibility into online courses. It is important to take into consideration accessibility in course design. According to a survey of online webpages, “only 23 percent of pages were accessible”. Jason Khurdan from Rutgers University recommends the four phase checklist for integrating accessibility into online courses.

Evolving the Learning Model & LMS

Posted by Edvance360 on Sep 19, 2017 9:00:00 AM

Recently, Campus Technology published an article titled, The Hidden Cost of Active Learning. It is an article written by an instructor on the verge of burnout because of the “connected” lifestyle we all live in the Internet of Things. Instructors are now starting to go through the same push back corporations have been dealing with for years…the expectations of response times. Our impatient, sometimes-narcissistic expectations of instant gratification span from immediate responses to our text messages, information inquiries and emails. We want to know now. The accessibility of information is a both a benefit and a curse. The work/life balance paradigm has shifted and both are intertwined. We each must develop our own sense of balance to maintain our sanity. For myself, my phone is practically with me 24/7/365, including next to my bed while I sleep. For others, it’s only on 9-5. I believe we must define what we will allow our friends, learners, and employees to expect from us. I call it “setting reality”, which sometimes has to be reset.

What Makes Edvance360 a “Best” LMS? (For Educational Institutions)

Posted by Edvance360 on Jul 12, 2017 7:05:00 AM

Good. Better. Best. What makes an LMS “Best”? What makes it better than other LMS solutions? And does that mean it’s BEST for your organization or institution? Since we've been finalists (and winners) of the CODiE Awards for Best LMS 9-years running and are again 2017 CODiE Award Finalists, we thought we'd take the time to define what it means to us, here.

Rather than listing features (which can always be added by other vendors), price/value (which should always be considered), or emphasizing necessary services like technical support and hands-on training (which are a MUST), this blog will cover what seems to make us a good fit for our clients – both educational and corporate. This post focuses on what makes a Best Post-Secondary Learning Management Solution.
